I know that DC has been in the news, and the Atlantic coast states in general for all of their snow. But it came to Texas too! Record snowfall for us last week!
This is a picture I took while driving to my parents house, if you can believe it.
(same street last March:
I had agreed to help with a baby shower Thursday evening. And volunteered to make a cake for it. Realizing on Monday or Tuesday that I'd need more time than I could handle after work, I arranged to take the day off. Boy was I glad that I did when I looked out the window that morning! The snow was everywhere and kept on coming!
Poor Bill had to go to work. But the schools in the area were closed so I headed over to Mom's so that she and my sister, Tessa, could help me make an awesome cake.
The women in the ward braved the snow for the shower and it was great. And there was a lot of talk about schools and businesses being closed the next day because all of that snow might turn to ice overnight! (ICE is the bane of all Texans, and we don't see real snow very often.)
It didn't ice up. It just kept on snowing. But guess what did happen overnight. Our power went out!!
There were power outages all over North Texas Friday morning, turns out. So Bill decided that the best thing to do was stay home. I felt like the best thing would be to get out! It had no heat! To compromise, we bundled up and drove to Albertsons for firewood--since we have a fireplace.
Bill built a fire. And then another one after that. And covered me with blankets and pushed the couch right up in front of the fire. And when it still wasn't warm--not even a little bit!--we took my advice and went to Mom's house where we could take a nice, hot shower. And watch TV. And eat warm food. And plus, it was her birthday. And plus, that chili that Bill made for the Chili cookoff that night--well, it wasn't going to stew all day in the fridge.
We dropped the dog off at Bill's parents house, and took the chili to Mom's house. Bill let it simmer in a crock-pot as chili should and it was popular at the Ward Chili Cook-off, even though it was way too spicy for my taste.
We were able to enjoy the rest of our Valentines Day weekend without the dog, thanks to Bills parents. And took her back Sunday night.
Monday night, guess who found the firewood!
