a good story..

So, this is my favorite story at the moment.

This Sunday was our branch conference, and so the Stake Presidency was all in attendence. And they wanted to make a point of mingling with us young single folk. After Sacrament Meeting our revered Stake President, Pres. Hathaway, comes over to where I'm talking with some friends, shakes hands all around and wants to have a chat with me.

Oh boy. This man has been Stake President since before I graduated high school, so we're pretty much acquainted. And we chat. At one point he mentions something like, "I wish there were more young men in the branch." And I'm like, "Well, I think a lot of us wish that, too!" Harty har, we had a good little chuckle. He said that it's pretty sparse in Texas. I agreed. But I told him I wasn't too worried, "I'm only 25. I'm still young!"

And he said it reminded him of a conversation his mother-in-law had had with his brother-in law. He wasn't dating much, and his mother was nagging him about it. And he said,--kind of like the comment I had just made, Pres. pointed out--"Oh, there's plenty of fish in the sea." To which his mother responded, "Yeah, but after a while the bait's no good."

I just blinked and said, "President! That's not what I want to hear!" And he sort of thought a second and said, "You're right, I should have thought about that before I said it." I was just teasing him. Really, I thought it was pretty funny. Still do. And it's so classic Pres. Hathaway. Welcome to the Lewisville Stake, people! This is where I grew up.
